Story
“Cookie could you tell us where you came from?” Jinx asked excitedly. Cookie had a sudden flashback of her mother being killed by a human, and her father leaving both of them to die. She despised her father. How could he leave her to die alone? Cookie remembered hesitantly leaving her mom, to run away from the odd human. She had run for what felt like answers, till she tripped and fell. Cookie gave up on going any further, her parents were gone. She would die anyways, wouldn’t she? The light of the sky started to dim, due to the moving clouds. Sleep came to her quicker than a blink of the eye.
She woke up to a black stallion staring at her. He had a silver mane and tail….and purple eyes? That didn’t make any sense. His voice was gentle.
“My name is Midnight, where are your parents?” he asked.
“Gone.” She answered sadly.
The stallion looked up alert of the sounds around them. It was chilly, and the light was all gone from the sky, replaced by stars.
“Come with me, I will take you to safety.” He said.
Cookie unsteadily got to her feet, and followed him away from that dark place. He walked slowly so she could keep up. He had two white socks on his back legs, she hadn’t noticed before. She didn’t pay much attention to the surrounding. When they stopped she didn’t expect to see such a beautiful place. They were standing atop a cliff, they looked down at a valley of horses. Not many, about ten at the most. She heard a waterfall, and looked to the right of her. A set of four beautiful waterfalls glided down the cliff to a single pond below. The walls of the cliff were a dull brown, with grass at the top, where they stood. Beautiful valleys of grass was below them. It was like a paradise for horses.
She never looked back after that. Making friends easily, and once orphan foals came into the herd, she adopted them. Cookie was attracted to the Deputy of the Herd, Arwel. He was better known as Spotty by his friends. Now there was close to thirty horses in the herd, and it was growing rapidly.
Her flashback ended there. The herd had around forty horses now.
“It is a dark story…I don’t think I will ever tell.” Cookie answered.
Jinx was her adopted son. He had a lovely brown coat with a small blanket that had black spots. He also had a few socks, and a star on his forehead.
“Please Cookie!” Jinx begged.
“Sorry, my dear boy, one day you will learn…” Cookie replied.
Jinx and her other adopted son, Lasso grew to beautiful stallions, and were both messengers for the herd. They traveled everywhere, together. Cookie couldn’t be more proud. She was much older now, at a rough twenty five. Life had slowed down for her, and she hadn’t found a mate. Ever. Her heart was still set on Arwel. He didn’t have anyone either. She didn’t understand why he chose to be alone. But, she never asked. Lasso had found a gorgeous mate, named Apache Sunrise. They were soul mates. Apache was pregnant with their first foal. Most likely to become a pintaloosa. Apache was a lovely red chestnut tobiano. While Lasso, was a chestnut leopard spot Appaloosa.
When their daughter was born she was indeed a pintaloosa. A chestnut pintaloosa with blue eyes. They named her Nuka. Cookie was able to watch her grow into a beautiful mare. Cookie had become very weak, and ill. She was very much an elder horse, roughly twenty eight now. She wasn’t immortal like many of the other horses. She’d become frail, and wasn’t able to eat properly. One day, she collapsed, and couldn’t not get back up. She laid there, knowing it was her time. Midnight, Lasso, and Jinx had rushed to her. Cookie was able to look at them one last time, before she went into a permanent sleep. She was gone.
All of the herd members mourned her. She’d be remembered as the kind mother to all the foals, the gentle soul, and the wise mare.
